I have to start off by saying I am lucky. No strike that, blessed, to have the opportunity to do what I do. My dreams of writing, speaking, and being a source of inspiration to others have come true in a big way.
Being afforded the chance to “positively impact” even one life is a gift for which I am forever grateful.
I will also tell you in all honesty that getting here wasn’t even remotely easy and for that, I am also, well… grateful. People who know how hard the journey has been at times have often asked, “Would I do it again?” You’re darn right I would! Every bump in the road, detour, or roadblock has been a part of what shaped my experience and hopefully given me the ability to handle anything. Looking back there was really only one part of the trip that was the most difficult at every level…letting myself dream!
For the majority of people I work with that seems to be the hardest part for them as well, trying to decide what they want out of life by truly letting themselves dream. When I ask a simple question like, “What would you like to do?” it is usually met with either “I don’t know” or “It doesn’t matter I couldn’t anyway”. However, when I rephrase the question, “If you could wave a magic wand, what would your ideal life look like?” the answers flow easily. Not only do the answers flow easily, they flow specifically with vivid details so as to paint the kind of picture that takes your vision from grainy watercolor to a high-definition reality.
When I finally allowed myself to wave the magic wand in my own life I had no idea what power it held. Just a few years ago my husband asked me what I would do if I could do anything? I didn’t hesitate, “I want to write inspirational books for Hay House!” I said with an excitement I hadn’t felt in a long time. “And I would speak on the ‘I Can Do It!’ events and coach people look and feel beautiful. Right over your head on the bookshelf next to Wayne Dyer is where my book will go…and my picture will be on the brochure next to Louise’s”. “Well alrighty then,” my husband said in that endearing Jim Carrey-esque way of his. And so the journey began
I bet you know what you really want deep down, but confusion and doubt creep in when you attach yourself to what your life should be or what others might expect of you. By allowing yourself to truly dream you go beyond seeing only limitations and move in to a world of seeing only possibilities.
When I started on my journey towards writing The Beauty Blueprint I was initially too afraid to wave my magic wand. I was crumbling under the weight of my shoulds and the guilt that came with them. Daring to dream was a courageous move towards uncovering my true beauty. I am forever grateful that I did it!
