PLANEAT Inspires Us to Make Healthy Food Choices
It’s a fact of life that food plays an important part in the daily lives of people around the world. Food is not only is a source of nutrition, it is also a way to bring people together, to share traditions, or to celebrate an occasion. It has a big role in many of the things we do each day. But have you ever stopped to think about its affect on the planet, or its affect on our livelihood?
PLANEAT, a documentary that inspires us to make the right food choices to help reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer, protect our environment and make our planet sustainable, brings us answers to these questions.
Recently released, this film presents food in a new light; we are presented with a convincing case for re-examining our consumption and the consequences high protein and high dairy diets. With insightful information shared by organic farmers and skilled, world famous chefs, PLANEAT reveals the latest research from three prominent scientists to support its case. Compelling research combined with chef demonstrations of healthy cooking help to bring viewers into a healthy frame of mind.
As outlined in the press release for the film, these scientists have made it their duty to find a diet that’s good for our health and well-being as well as for the future of our planet.
Dr. T. Colin Campbell explored the link between diet and disease. He performed a groundbreaking research study with Cornell University, Oxford University and the Chinese government that took 20 years to complete. His research found populations with a heavy animal protein diet are more likely to suffer from heart disease, diabetes and cancer than those with a plant based diet.
Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, a cardiac surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic and medical advisor to President Bill Clinton, found little research on heart disease, but noticed that in rural China and parts of Africa and Mexico, there was no heart disease as a result of their peoples’ plant based diets. He put some of his patients with serious heart problems on a meat and dairy free diet and found they were able to arrest and even reverse coronary artery disease.
Gidon Eshel, professor of Physics and Geosciences at Bard College, investigated how our food choices impact our land, oceans and atmosphere. He specifically looked at the impact of the Western diet on the environment. He discovered red meat was the worst offender of the greenhouse gas emissions. Also, eating a diet heavy in meat and dairy is one of the main causes of ‘dead zones,’ vast areas of the ocean off the world’s coastlines where no living creative can survive.
PLANEAT’s experts have appeared in a CNN special along with Sanjay Gupta, MD as well as the Dr. Oz Show. Notably, in 2010 former U.S. President Bill Clinton adopted a mostly plant based diet as a result of Dr. Esselstyn’s and Dr. Campbell’s research.
